Custom-Built Cold-Formed Steel Buildings

Cold-formed steel (CFS) buildings, also known as C-channel buildings, are usually small prefabricated structures that use little material. They’re made of 100% galvanized cold-formed steel, which is lightweight with a very high strength to weight ratio. With National Steel Buildings’ design and fabrication capabilities, you can take advantage of the many benefits of building with cold-formed steel without the limitations of standard mass-produced kits.

The cold-form manufacturing process creates consistent high-quality and uniform products. Builders rely on CFS for predictable construction projects and strong, high-performing structures every time. CFS is noncombustible and dimensionally stable. It’s also resistant to extreme loads, high winds, earthquakes, blast threats, and moisture-related expansion and contraction. These are just a few reasons why CFS is one of the most resilient building materials on the market.

Building with CFS materials costs you less across the entire construction cycle because of the predictability, accuracy and design efficiency of the components. This results in lower insurance rates, shorter project cycles and less waste disposal.

Custom cold-formed steel solutions are perfect for fast, economical and maintenance-free steel building projects. Use CFS for commercial, industrial or more unconventional applications:

  • Self-storage facilities.
  • Residential housing.
  • Student dormitories.
  • Hotels.
  • Tiny houses.
  • She sheds.
  • Man caves.
  • Guesthouses.
  • Assisted living facilities.
  • Relief housing.
  • Post frame buildings.
  • Barns.
  • Warehouses.
  • Garages.
  • Midrise buildings up to 10 stories or more.

Not sure if CFS is the right material for your next project? Here’s a list of the benefits that make it a superior building material:

  • Safe, long-lasting material: CFS is noncombustible and resistant to moisture-related expansion and contraction.
  • Disaster resistance, strength and ductility: CFS withstands heavy loads, wind, earthquakes, blasts and more.
  • Sustainability: CFS framing contains between 25% to more than 70% recycled steel, meeting the highest sustainability standards.
  • Easy construction: Components come pre-cut, pre-drilled and ready for assembly. Your project won’t require extensive training or specialized tools to complete.
  • Safe job sites: Low-risk conditions mean lower insurance rates.
  • Fast installation: CFS panels contain pre-punched holes for fast mechanical, electric and plumbing installation.
  • Recyclability: CFS components come with less waste and are 100% recyclable.
  • Dimensional stability: CFS isn’t predisposed to shrink, split, warp, crack or creep like other materials.
  • Long-term savings: CFS has reduced maintenance and repair costs compared to less stable building materials.

Building with National Steel Buildings ensures that you’ll get a structurally sound, engineered, certified and warranted cold-formed steel building designed to your exact specifications.

CFS Fabrication

Your investment in a cold-formed steel facility begins with high-performing preengineered or custom-made steel building materials. C-channel steel components and parts are factory roll-formed using press brakes or rolling mills. Cold-formed steel framing contains between 25% and over 70% recycled steel, so it meets the highest sustainability requirements of major rating programs.

Unlike wood, cold-formed steel doesn’t shrink, split or absorb moisture and it resists warping, termites, mold and corrosion. These properties make it the perfect choice for constructing high-quality buildings.

CFS Design Approach

Cold-formed steel is lightweight, making it easy to ship, handle and assemble. Components are designed to bolt together with no welding, so cold-formed steel building projects are simpler, with less lead time. CFS wall, floor and roof sections can even be assembled off-site in a controlled environment, which can minimize costly weather delays and ensure greater quality control. CFS panels come with pre-punched holes to accommodate rapid mechanical, electric and plumbing installation after the framing is complete.

A complete concrete foundation is not needed with National Steel Buildings’ cold-formed steel buildings, which keeps your in place costs as low as possible. They work on existing concrete slabs or you can pour a new concrete slab with a thickened edge.

Component Material Sourcing and Fabrication

Your steel building can be as functional and unique as you like. The exterior can be vertical metal panels, or you can customize your building to have any type of exterior siding that you want. We can optimize your steel building to be eco-friendly, energy efficient, safe, simple and durable, or attractive and bold.

With over 17 years in the industry, we have the buying power to offer competitive pricing on today’s cutting-edge building materials without sacrificing quality, service or warranties. Let our designers know what your priorities are!

Choose from features and accessories to give your steel building the look and feel you want:
